| SANTA & THE GRINCH (A Christmas Fantasy)
As a Christmas treat we headed up to the North Pole to see how Santa was getting ready for his big day; and what we discovered was turmoil. Santa's Workshop was under attack from The Grinch and his villain accomplices (including some dastardly Prussians). The forces of Nature were also at work and a very disgruntled Blizzard Wizard, from his hideout in the central wood, was guiding parties of Ice Goblins, Yeti, wolves, polar bears and even blizzards against both sides in the dispute. The players took the part of heroes working for Santa or villains working for the Grinch. Each received a mission to complete with the help of a five man (or woman) patrol. There were twelve missions for each faction and the player who completed the most by the end of play would be declared the winner and receive a 30 foot high chocolate Santa (scaled down of course). Players could not attack others on their side but could attack the enemy. Missions included rescuing or capturing children, catching reindeer, finding sacks of letters and crates of gifts, firing snowball catapults or a steam tank at the enemy buildings, finding out what the wizard wanted and then attacking him with a steam walker and building snowmen to scare off the Ice Goblins. All the players enjoyed the game whilst doubting the organiser's sanity. The winners were Simon (Santa faction) & Robert (friend of the Grinch) who both completed ten missions. We can't wait until next year. Ho, ho, ho.

There was also an English Civil War game fought out tonight.
